# How to Connect Noiz Mail to Codex

This guide adds Noiz Mail to Codex, OpenAI's coding agent, so it can work with your Noiz mailbox from the terminal, the Codex app or the IDE extension, which share one set of settings.

**Last reviewed:** 4 November 2026, against the current Codex release and the live Noiz Mail connector. OpenAI changes commands from time to time; where its page differs from this guide, its page is right.

### Official Documentation Reference

- [Codex MCP configuration (OpenAI developer documentation)](https://developers.openai.com/codex/mcp): the `codex mcp` commands.

## Prerequisites

- A Noiz mailbox and its password. Several mailboxes? See [How to Connect Several Mailboxes in One Noiz Mail Connection](/noiz-mail/how-to-connect-several-mailboxes-in-one-noiz-mail-connection/) first, because the list is pasted during the first sign-in.
- Codex installed and signed in.

## Adding the Connector

Run these two commands in a terminal:

```bash
codex mcp add mail --url https://mcp.noiz.co.za/mail
```

```bash
codex mcp login mail
```

The second command opens the Noiz page **Connect your mailbox** in your browser. Enter your mailbox address and password and click **Connect**. The connection is saved for that user on that computer, and the Codex app and the IDE extension use it too.

## Using It

Ask in plain words: "Summarise what came in from Acme this week", or "Draft a reply to Jane saying we'll deliver on Friday". When you ask Codex to send, it shows you the message and asks you to approve it before anything goes out. Every tool it can use is in the [tools reference](/noiz-mail/noiz-mail-tools-reference/).

## Disconnecting

Run `codex mcp logout mail` to sign out, or `codex mcp remove mail` to delete the connector. All the ways to end a connection are in [How to Disconnect or Remove Noiz Mail](/noiz-mail/how-to-disconnect-or-remove-noiz-mail/).

## Troubleshooting

- **Symptom: "Address or password incorrect."** Use your full email address and your mail password. After five wrong attempts, sign-in pauses for up to 15 minutes.
- **Symptom: Codex asks you to sign in again.** Run `codex mcp login mail`. A connection ends 90 days after sign-in, or earlier if a password changed.

Every message the sign-in page can show is explained in [Noiz Mail Troubleshooting](/noiz-mail/noiz-mail-troubleshooting/).
