Noiz Mail Limits and Behaviour
This page lists every limit built into Noiz Mail and what happens when one is reached, so that a result that looks short, a “busy” answer or a request to sign in again is never a surprise. Nothing here needs setting up; it is how the connector behaves for every connection.

Searching and Reading
Section titled “Searching and Reading”| Limit | Value | What happens at the limit |
|---|---|---|
| Rows per search | 1 to 100, default 25 | The AI pages with offset for more |
| Paging in one folder | No limit | |
Paging across all folders (folder="*") |
offset plus limit at most 1,000 | Deeper paging is refused |
| Folders visited in an all-folders search | 100, and no new folder after 60 seconds | The rest are counted in not_searched; Trash and Junk are never searched this way |
Paging across all mailboxes (mailbox="*") |
offset plus limit at most 500 | Deeper paging is refused |
| Time for an all-mailboxes search | No new mailbox after 45 seconds | Mailboxes still waiting are listed in errors as not searched; the rest are returned |
| Folder count time | 60 seconds | Counting stops; every folder is still listed |
| Message body | 50,000 characters | The text is cut there and the result says so |
| Attachment size | 5 MB | Larger attachments cannot be opened |
| Attachment types read as text | Plain text and PDF | Other types come back as base64 data; scanned PDFs, Office files and pictures may hold no readable text |
Changing and Sending
Section titled “Changing and Sending”| Behaviour | Value |
|---|---|
| Moving mail | Only to a folder that already exists; trash, archive and junk name the mailbox’s own folders of that role |
| Deleting | Never permanent; “delete” moves to Trash |
| Creating folders | Not possible |
| Sender address | Always the signed-in address of the mailbox in use |
| Sent copy | Saved in Sent; if that fails the message still goes and the AI is told |
| Replies and forwards | Keep the original subject with “Re:” or “Fwd:”; a forward is plain text |
| Images in HTML mail | Embedded from an https address or a data URI; other sources are refused |
| Messages sent per hour or day | No connector limit; your mail server’s own outgoing limits apply |
| Recipients per message | No connector limit; your mail server’s own limits apply |
Concurrency and the Mail Server
Section titled “Concurrency and the Mail Server”| Limit | Value | What happens at the limit |
|---|---|---|
| Tool calls running at once per connection | 4 | A further call waits; if no slot frees within 30 seconds it is told the connection is busy and nothing is changed |
| Sessions held open per mailbox | 4 | Keeps the connector below your mail server’s own per-user limit |
| Waiting for a mail server session | 30 seconds | The call is told “The mail server is busy right now. Try again shortly.” and nothing is changed |
| Fairness between connections | Turns go to the connection served least recently | One connection searching dozens of mailboxes cannot hold up another’s single call |
An all-mailboxes search counts as one call, and within a connection calls that name one mailbox go before all-mailboxes work.
Signing In
Section titled “Signing In”| Limit | Value | What happens at the limit |
|---|---|---|
| Wrong passwords per client address, and per mailbox | 5 in 15 minutes | Sign-in pauses for up to 15 minutes. The client address is the one your AI app or browser connects from, so an office that shares one internet connection shares the pause |
| Wrong passwords per mailbox per day from one network | 20 | That mailbox refuses sign-in from that network for the day |
| Mailboxes in one connection | No limit | |
| Checking a pasted list | 60 seconds plus 2 seconds per mailbox | Checking stops; nothing is connected until every line passes, so a shorter list may be needed, with the rest added on the manage page |
| Mailboxes that may sign in | Any on a Noiz mail server, found by the domain’s MX record, or on a client mail server Noiz manages | Any other address is told “Mail for example.com is not hosted by Noiz” and no password is tried |
Tokens and Connection Lifetime
Section titled “Tokens and Connection Lifetime”| Item | Value |
|---|---|
| Access token | 1 hour, renewed by the AI app without you noticing |
| Refresh token | 30 days from its last use, and it rotates on every use, so a connection in regular use stays signed in |
| Connection | Ends 90 days after sign-in however often it was refreshed; you then sign in again |
| Unused connection | Ends when its refresh token expires, 30 days after the last use |
| Password change on the mail server | Ends the connection on the next call that opens that mailbox on its own; in an all-mailboxes search the mailbox is skipped and the rest continue |
| Disconnect | Immediate, from the AI app or the manage page |
When a connection ends, your AI app shows a Reconnect button or asks you to sign in again. Your mail is untouched.
What Is Kept After a Connection Ends
Section titled “What Is Kept After a Connection Ends”A revoked connection’s record, with its sealed password, is deleted 30 days after revocation. A connection that was never used and cannot be unlocked any more is deleted at the same housekeeping run. Audit lines are kept for 30 days; see Security and Privacy for what they contain.
